Types of Hives

This is a national hive:



This is a WBC hive, named after William Broughton Carr. It is double walled to offer insulation. Its a lot more expensive than other hives as it uses a lot more wood:



And the Top Bar hive, first designed for bee keepers in Africa, but the idea is beleived to originate from Greece in the 17th Century. Observation windows can be fitted to top bar hives:



After much delibaration, we settled on the top bar hive.

Cheaper, less equipment and more natural for the bees.
